Around the Corner

Thirty years had passed to this point yet what did I do but hesitate to round the corner.

No one would recognize me yet my heart continued to race in my throat.

Twenty years spent  across the looming town line, twenty years of childhood firsts.

The times were more happy then sad yet it was the terror of youth I now remembered.

Long nights with a pillow over my head, monsters and ghouls visiting with shrieks and yells so scary my soul ached to escape.

Now beyond the fear of youth I stood frozen, wondering, what was around the corner.
