Tourists – chapter 3

The last silver dollar was pocketed and something amazing happened.

Transformed from a dingy hole to an upscale club the EyeCafe was vibrant with music, food and people.

A minute ago there were the tourists now there were hundreds dancing and eating.

With a twinge of panic Trudy noticed her group had merged and mingled into the crowd, without thinking she followed.

At the end of the bar the carnival barker surveyed the crowd with a smugness, no one noticed.

The blindfolded musicians drove the rhythm without a break, the tourists drank it in as if it was liquid liberation.

Tourists – chapter 2

The dreariness at the EyeCafe intimidated the tourists, so it was no surprise they sat quietly at the dusty tables.

Ten minutes passed when Trudy abruptly stood swinging her gaze from grungy windows to grease stained floors. Her mouth opened to speak, when she was interupted.

“Welcome to the EyeCafe” an unseen carnival barker offered.

Trudy exclaimed “where are you?”

From seemingly nowhere a man appeared offering a silver dollar to Trudy, then one to each tourist.

The barker scanned the room saying “ Each silver dollar is key to fulfillment, always keep it safe, loose it and desolation awaits.”

You never know what you will find when you get off the tourist bus. Today’s 100 word story is chapter 1 in a series entitled Tourists, Enjoy!

Tourists

Inching its way forward the tour bus parked in front of the somewhat sinister EyeCafe.

Excitement was palpable on the bus as tourists raised their voices straightened themselves and wiped the foggy windows peering out onto the dingy streets.

Craving a gritty life that had eluded them in middle America, this group traveled far and paid much. Everything left behind, now they were in NYC

35 stodgy passengers climbed from the idling bus onto the sidewalk sweeping en masse into the EyeCafe.

At first, the corn fed travelers were silent then one by one they ventured further in and sat down.
